4. Mark Colleano was Aldo

Mark Colleano plays Aldo, the leader of the gang of orphans. Early on Aldo is established as top dog, snapping at the younger boys, slinging Captain von Hecht's rifle proprietarily over his shoulder and ambling over to the knot of seated boys to take a couple of puffs off the cigarette Silvio is smoking.

That he is violent and a loose cannon becomes clearer when he smacks little Carlo across the face to get him to produce real tears and persuade the doctor Bianca to come and help Carlo's ailing "mother."

Aldo is suffering the effects of violence as well, and is perhaps the most sensitive, and certainly the most high-strung, of the boys.
